Elida is most commonly known as “the sailing church”, as we in the summertime are often seen and heard in the ports along the Swedish coasts with music, singing and life stories presenting the Christian faith.

We also sail with hundreds of teenagers every year, most often on confirmation camps, either with people doing their whole confirmation studies with us, or with confirmation groups arriving from various churches.

Our desire is that everyone will feel at home onboard, whether they come to sail, look at the ship, ask questions or just partake of our fellowship.

Even though the confirmation camps take up much of our time, we also arrange other types of sailings suitable for anyone who would like to join – no need to be a believer, church-goer or similar. Elida is a place where we wish to have an open atmosphere with mush scope for reflection and discussion. As our Captain often says, we offer an opportunity to “taste the Christian faith with no obligation to purchase.”

Elida itself is not a church, but an all-Christian organisation where everyone working onboard is individually connected to a local church at home. Thus, you could call Elida the Church’s extended arm, which aims at presenting the universal Church, the Bible, Jesus and the Christian faith.

Elida is much more than just the formal organisation. Many people are linked to us in various ways and are a part of us, such as the members of our PartnerShip program, priests returning with their confirmation groups, intercessors, youth and others sailing with us, as well as all those who often and willingly assist and support us with practical help in different ways.

What we believe in:

We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of the saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
