What is Elida

[mk_revslider id=”what-is-elida”]

Elida is known to many as “the sailing church”, as in summer we are often seen in harbours along our coasts with music, singing and life stories presenting the Christian faith.

We also sail with many hundreds of young people each year who are confirmed and either read their confirmation with us or come to camp with the church they have chosen to be confirmed in.

Our desire is that everyone feels welcome on board to both have a great sail, see what the boat looks like, ask questions or to share in the fellowship.

Although confirmation sails take up a large part of our calendar, we also have other kinds of sails that are suitable for anyone to take part in – you don’t have to believe in God or be church-going in any way. However, you should know that Elida is a place where we wish to have high standards and where there are many opportunities for reflection and conversation. There are opportunities to “taste the Christian faith but there is no bargain” as the Captain likes to say.

We are not a church in itself, but Elida is an all-Christian organisation where everyone who works on board is linked to a home congregation where they come from and Elida could also be called the extended arm of the church, which aims to present the universal church, the Bible, Jesus and the Christian faith.

Elida is much more than the formal organisation. Many people are linked to us in different ways and are part of us, such as PartnerShip members, clergy who return with their confirmation groups, intercessors, youth and others who sail with us, as well as all those who often and gladly assist with practical help in various ways.

What we believe in:

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Amen.
